The task for brick at 550 O’Farrell was to design an apartment building appealing to a sophisticated, urban workforce within the constraints of the location in San Francisco’s historic Tenderloin district.

Located only a few blocks from both Civic Center and Union Square, this building is designed for the city dweller who wants to be at the center of activity. New development to this site will also work to energize a stretch of O’Farrell street that has not seen much development in decades.

At 550 O’Farrell, brick transformed an underutilized two-story parking garage in the heart of the Tenderloin into much-needed housing, overcoming several constraints, including a prevailing street wall, height limits, adjacent light wells, and an existing foundation.
The 13-story concrete apartment building is comprised of studios and one-bedroom units. Residential amenities include a lounge with an outdoor deck at the podium level as well as a large landscaped roof deck with expansive views of the city. The units are designed efficiently to keep costs down and include amenities such as built-in entertainment, work surfaces, full galley kitchens, and in-unit washer and dryers.
