Business is booming in Oakland, as the city offers proximity to countless company offices and commutes are a breeze thanks to tight-knit public transportation. Developers building housing and commercial space almost can’t keep up with demand, and are facing difficulties funding rising construction costs, not to mention long entitlement processes and roadblocks from the community. Brick principal and CEO Rob Zirkle spoke on a panel with SRM development principal of real estate, finance, and operations Ryan Leong about their joint project Baxter on Broadway, a mixed-use building in the heart of downtown Oakland and the difficulties they faced in getting the project off the ground. 4901 Broadway is slated to wrap up construction nearly six years later.
